Britney Spears is setting the record straight on her much-discussed Instagram dance videos and sharing rare insight into her relationship with performing. The pop icon, 44, addressed the chatter on Thursday, January 8, with a deeply personal post reflecting on her past, present and a possible future return to the stage — but only on her own terms.
The singer shared a throwback image from her performance of I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman at the 29th Annual American Music Awards in 2002. Alongside the photo, Spears explained that her current social media dancing is far more meaningful than many realize.
“Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about,” she wrote. “Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes… but I walked through the fire to save my life.”

The Gimme More singer also made a striking declaration about her future onstage appearances. Spears stated that she has no intention of performing again in the United States, citing deeply personal reasons.
“I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons,” she wrote, before teasing a potential return abroad. She added that she hopes to perform “in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon,” envisioning an intimate setup — sitting on a stool with a red rose in her hair — and possibly sharing the moment with her son.
Britney on Her Sons and a Possible Return to the Stage
While Spears didn’t specify whether she was referring to Sean Preston, 20, or Jayden, 19, she has frequently praised Jayden’s musical abilities in the past. In the same post, she revealed plans to gift her son the white piano she once used at the 2002 American Music Awards.
“He’s a genius and I’m in awe of him !!! I can’t believe he’s mine !!!” she previously wrote, underscoring her pride as a mother.
The pop star also shared a selfie with Jayden, adding playful emojis to the post. A source told PEOPLE last month that Britney spent Christmas with Jayden, calling it a “special holiday,” while Sean Preston celebrated separately with extended family.
Britney shares both sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline, who recently said their children “absolutely love their mom” and value their bond with her.
