Exclusive interview with the author
Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?
A: I used to write my thoughts and questions in a diary, almost like conversations with myself. It was never meant for anyone else’s eyes … it was just a way of making sense of the noise in my head. One day, I decided to rewrite something I had written into a kind of essay, just to see how it might take shape outside the private pages of a diary. I shared it with a friend, asking her if she related, if the questions I carried sounded anything like her own. Her response surprised me, it wasn’t just my story anymore, but something that echoed for her too. That moment of connection, of realizing that my questions were not mine alone, was the seed from which In the Asking, I Changed was born.
Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?
A: In the Asking, I Changed isn’t a book of conclusions, it’s a journey through uncertainty. It weaves together stories, psychology, and philosophy to explore how questioning transforms our lives. From body shaming to career choices, from silence to self-discovery, each chapter begins with a simple question and unfolds into something much larger.
Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?
A: This book unfolded slowly. The initial essays grew organically, written over months without the pressure of turning them into a book. Once I realized they belonged together, it took about a year of weaving them into something cohesive, editing, questioning, and layering in the psychology and philosophy that give the book its shape.
Q: Do You Have Any Suggestions To Help Others To Become A Better Writer? If So, What Are They?
A: Write as if no one is reading. The moment you begin writing for approval, your words stiffen. Let yourself write badly, awkwardly, even clumsily and the honesty will shine through later. And read widely: philosophy, fiction, memoirs, even poetry. A writer’s voice is shaped not by one genre, but by the echoes of many.
Q: What Does Success Mean To You? What Is The Definition Of Success?
A: For me, success is less about numbers and more about resonance. If a reader pauses at a sentence and feels less alone in their questioning, that is success. If someone sees their reflection in these stories and feels braver for it, that is success. Everything else is background noise.
Q: Tell Us About Your First Published Book? What Was The Journey Like?
A: This is my first published book, and the journey was equal parts thrilling and terrifying. Writing was intimate, but publishing made it public and suddenly my private reflections belonged to readers. It felt like handing over pieces of myself, but also like witnessing them come alive in new and unexpected ways.
