D Gukesh Vs Ding Liren Highlights, World Chess Championship 2024 Game 11:
Indian challenger D Gukesh picked up an important win over Chinese champion Ding Liren in Game 11 of the World Chess Championship 2024 final in Singapore on Sunday.
Gukesh made the best of a mistake from Liren deep into the eleventh game of the 14-game series to take a 6-5 lead in the summit clash.
Game 10 of the match on Saturday, finished in another draw as the finalists shook hands to share the spoils of the battle at the end of the board.
Liren initially took the lead in the summit clash as he defied the odds to triumph on the first time of asking in Game 1, before maintaining his lead with a draw in Game 2.
Gukesh, however, clawed his way back into the final with a win in Game 3 to restore parity in the championship encounter.
Games 4 through 10 have all finished in a draw as the 34-year-old and the teenager stand tied at five points each in the final that requires a player to secure 7.5 points in order to clinch the championship.
How Will The Title Be Decided?
For a player to be crowned the champion, one would need a total of 7.5 games from the total of 14 games. A win results in one point, a draw entitles 0.5 and a loss is 0 points respectively. If the match ends in a tie after all 14 games, a tiebreak will be held the following day to determine the winner.
This year’s tournament marks the first time in 138 years that two Asian players will be pitted against each other in the summit clash, with a prize money of USD 2.5 million going to the winner.
