About the Author:

David Joseph is an entrepreneur, software architect, and trainer whose professional life is grounded in building systems, solving problems, and mentoring others. Yet beyond the world of technology, poetry has been his sanctuary and therapy. Born from seasons of exile and silence, his verses became a way to navigate grief, rediscover faith, and transform scars into meaning. Over nearly two decades, his poems have grown into a testament of survival, love, and renewal. In Sacred Songs of a Nomad Soul, David offers unworthy psalms, songs of the black sheep and the wanderer, always searching for healing in poetry.

Exclusive interview with the author

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: Sacred Songs of a Nomad Soul began as a blog I started in my 20s, during a time of deep personal trauma. Writing became my way of searching for a voice and surviving what I couldn’t express otherwise. Now, in my early 40s, I’ve gathered those poems into this book as a way of acknowledging the young man who endured in silence and chose to write instead. The collection moves through different eras of my life, the later, more polished works at the beginning and the raw, experimental pieces toward the end. For me, publishing this book is about finding closure, moving my hurt from memory to paper, and placing it on a shelf where it belongs. But it’s also a message to my daughter and anyone who struggles with pain, to write, to speak, and to seek help. In many ways, this is a ‘what not to do’ kind of book, but I hope it also becomes a guide toward resilience.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: Writing this book taught me two kinds of lessons. As a poet, I can see how my early work was raw and often forced, yet even then the heart of my writing shone through. Over the years, I’ve learned to express myself with more clarity and to explore themes beyond my comfort zone. I’ve also discovered that my voice often carries an archaic, almost spiritual tone, which has become part of my style. Beyond poetry, though, the deeper lesson was personal. I realized I had bottled up my trauma instead of reaching out for help. This book reminded me that mental health is as important as anything else, and that silence is never the answer.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: The title reflects both my life and my writing journey. As a young man who experienced abandonment and exile, I identified deeply with the idea of being a ‘Nomad Soul.’ Much of my early poetry wrestled with that sense of displacement and search for belonging. At the same time, I was exploring divinity and with my name being David, the connection to the Psalms left its mark on me. That’s why I chose ‘Sacred Songs,’ and together, Sacred Songs of a Nomad Soul became the most honest name for this collection.

Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?

A: This book has been nearly two decades in the making. The poems span about 17 to 18 years of my life, from my raw, experimental writing in my 20s to the more refined pieces of recent years. In that sense, it wasn’t written all at once, but slowly gathered as I grew, struggled, and healed. What really took time was living through the experiences that shaped the words.

Q: How Many Books Have You Written? Which Is Your Favourite?

A: Sacred Songs of a Nomad Soul is my first book.

Q: Do You Believe A Book Cover Plays An Important Role In The Selling Process?

A: Yes, absolutely. A book cover is often the first encounter a reader has with the work, so it sets the tone and creates an invitation to step inside. For Sacred Songs of a Nomad Soul, I chose a hand drawn landscape that represents my younger self filled with color, beauty, and the sense of journey and loneliness that inspired these poems. I wanted the cover to reflect the emotional world behind it.
