Exclusive interview with the author

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: As a software engineer turned entrepreneur, I’ve lived both sides of the journey — writing countless lines of code and then facing the harsh reality of trying to sell what I built. Time and again, I’ve seen brilliant developers and dreamers create amazing products, only to realize too late that product-building and product-selling are two entirely different games. That gap — between a working product and a revenue-generating one — is where most startups stumble. I wrote “Is Your Product Ready?” to help others bridge that gap. This book is the guide I wish I had when I started. It’s built on 14 years of real-world experience launching cloud and AI-powered SaaS products — not just in theory, but in practice, from MNCs to my own startup. My inspiration came from a desire to help founders, developers, and solo builders go beyond the code — to validate faster, launch smarter, and sell confidently. If this book can help someone turn their idea into income, or their product into a business, then it’s done its job.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: “Is Your Product Ready? – Sell Your SaaS Product and Generate Revenue” is a no-fluff, practical guide for SaaS founders, indie developers, and product builders who want to turn their software into a scalable business. Written by entrepreneur Deepak Jena, the book helps you move beyond just building — into selling, marketing, and growing your SaaS product with confidence and clarity.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: The title “Is Your Product Ready?” is both a challenge and a reality check. It’s a question every founder, developer, or product builder must ask before going to market — but most don’t. It’s not about whether the code is working or the UI looks clean — it’s about whether your product is truly ready to generate revenue, solve a real problem, and stand out in the market. The title reflects the core message of the book: building a product is only half the journey — making it ready to sell, scale, and succeed is where the real work begins. This book helps you answer that question with clarity, confidence, and strategy.

Q: What Did You Learn When Writing The Book?

A: Writing this book was a journey of reflection as much as it was of sharing. I realized that many lessons I had learned over 14 years — through successes, failures, pivots, and launches — only truly became clear when I tried to put them into words. It forced me to step back and distill complex experiences into actionable frameworks that others could use. One of the biggest things I learned was how often we, as product builders, overvalue what we build and undervalue how we take it to market. Writing the book helped me see that success isn’t just about having the best product — it’s about timing, validation, storytelling, and empathy for your customer’s problem. I also learned that there’s a huge gap between knowledge and communication. Knowing something isn’t enough — teaching it in a clear, relatable way is what creates impact. This book pushed me to become not just a builder, but a better communicator.

Q: Where Do You Get Your Information Or Ideas For Your Books?

A: The ideas for this book come directly from real-world experience — not theory. Over the past 14+ years, I’ve worked on cloud and AI-powered SaaS products for both large enterprises and my own startup. I’ve been in the trenches — building MVPs, pitching to customers, struggling with sales, and learning what actually works when it comes to launching and selling a product. Most of the insights in this book are drawn from those hands-on moments — working with developers, interacting with early adopters, and watching what makes products succeed or fail in the real market. I’ve also mentored founders and spoken with many early-stage teams, and their challenges shaped a lot of the content too. In short, the ideas come from practice, not just perspective.

Q: Do You Try More To Be Original Or To Deliver To Readers What They Want?

A: I try to strike a balance. Originality is important — it brings authenticity and fresh perspective. But I also believe that writing must be useful. So I focus on delivering what readers actually need, in a way that’s honest and experience-driven. In the end, I aim to share original insights that solve real problems. That’s where the value lies.

Q: What, In Your Opinion, Are The Most Important Elements Of Good Writing?

A: For me, the most important elements of good writing are clarity, authenticity, and purpose. Clarity makes your message easy to understand. Authenticity builds trust — readers connect with real voices, not perfect ones. And purpose ensures that every word adds value and moves the reader forward. If you can inform, inspire, or solve a problem with your writing — you’ve done it right.

Q: What Is The Most Difficult Part About Writing For You?

A: The most difficult part for me is slowing down my thoughts. I often have too many ideas at once, and organizing them into a clear, logical flow takes time and patience. Another challenge is knowing what to leave out. As a writer, you want to give everything, but good writing is also about focus and simplicity — saying more with less. That’s where the real work happens.

Q: What Does Success Mean To You? What Is The Definition Of Success?

A: To me, success means creating impact without losing your values. It’s not just about numbers, fame, or money — it’s about knowing that what you’ve built is useful, honest, and lasting. Success is when your work helps someone else move forward. It’s waking up every day with purpose, doing what you believe in, and staying true to who you are — even when it’s hard. In simple terms, success is progress with meaning.

Q: Where Do You Get Your Greatest Ideas For Writing?

A: My best ideas come from real-life experiences — the challenges I’ve faced, the conversations I’ve had, and the patterns I’ve observed while building products and working with people. I also get inspired by problems that need solving. When I see others struggling with the same questions I once had, I feel driven to write about them — not just to share solutions, but to simplify the path for others. In short, my ideas come from doing the work, reflecting on it, and wanting to make it easier for those who follow.
