US President Donald Trump on Monday claimed he would move to end the border conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as he asserted that he was “good at solving wars”, saying that the Israel-Hamas ceasefire was the “eighth war” resolved during his presidency.

As Pakistan and Afghanistan exchanged heavy fire over the weekend, Trump, speaking aboard Air Force One before his arrival in Israel on a peace mission, said he had been briefed on the fierce clashes that erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

“This will be my 8th war that I have solved,” he said, referring to the Israel-Hamas war.

“…And I hear there is a war now going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” Trump said.

“I said, I’ll have to wait until I get back. I’m doing another one because I’m good at solving. I’m good at wars. I’m good at making peace,” he said.

The President went on to say that his diplomatic efforts were driven by humanitarian goals rather than personal recognition, referencing the Nobel Peace Prize.

“It’s an honour to do it. I save millions of lives,” Trump said.

“In all fairness to the Nobel Committee, it was for 2024. And this was picked for 2024. But there are those who say you could make an exception, because a lot of things happened during 2025 that are done and complete and great. But I did this not for the Nobel. I did this to save lives. I mean, we’ve saved millions of lives,” the US President said.

Donald Trump has departed for the Middle East, after Israel and Hamas reached a deal to release hostages held in Gaza.

Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas signed an agreement on Thursday to a ceasefire and free Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, in the first phase of Trump’s initiative to end the two-year war in Gaza that has upended the Middle East.

DOZENS KILLED IN PAKISTAN-AFGHANISTAN CLASHES

Dozens of fighters were killed in overnight border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Reuters quoted both sides as saying on Sunday.

This was being seen as the most serious fighting between the neighbours since the Taliban came to power in Kabul.

The Pakistan military said that 23 of its soldiers were killed in the clashes. The Taliban said nine on its side were killed.

Tensions have risen after Islamabad demanded the Taliban take action against militants who have stepped up attacks in Pakistan, saying they operate from havens in Afghanistan.

The Taliban, which came to power in 2021, denies that Pakistani militants are present on its soil.

On Thursday, Pakistan carried out airstrikes in Kabul and on a marketplace in eastern Afghanistan, the report quoted Pakistani security officials and the Taliban as saying, setting off retaliatory attacks by the Taliban.

Afghan troops opened fire on Pakistani border posts late on Saturday. Pakistan said that it had responded with gun and artillery fire.

Both nations claimed to have destroyed border posts of the other side. Pakistani security officials shared video footage, which they said showed Afghan posts being hit.

On Sunday, Kabul said that it had halted attacks at the request of Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The two Arab Gulf nations had released statements of concern about the clashes.
