The DUSU results, originally scheduled to be announced on September 28, a day after the elections, were delayed due to a Delhi High Court order.
In a closely contested Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). the student wing of Congress and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS, won two seats each.
While NSUI claimed the President and Joint Secretary posts, ABVP secured victories for Vice President and Secretary.
NSUI candidate Rounak Khatri won the DUSU President post as the counting of votes took place on Monday. Khatri defeated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) presidential candidate Rishabh Chaudhary by over 1,300 votes.
Meanwhile, the ABVP’s Bhanu Pratap Singh bagged the post of DUSU Vice President with a margin of 8,762 votes by bagging 24,166 votes.
NSUI’s Lokesh Choudhary won the Joint Secretary post after defeating ABVP’s Aman Kapasia. This is the first time after 2017 that NSUI bagged two of the central posts and saw victory in the president’s position.
The post of Secretary was won by Mitravinda Karanwal from the ABVP.
The DUSU results, which were originally scheduled to be announced on September 28, a day after the elections, were delayed due to a Delhi High Court order. The court had stalled the declaration of results until the defacement caused during the election campaign was cleaned.
The key players in the elections were the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and the Left-alliance of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Students’ Federation of India (SFI).
The NSUI held the vice-president’s post in the outgoing union while the ABVP held the remaining three posts.
