‘Game On’: Trump’s Border Czar Warns Mamdani Over His Pledge To Block Deportation Raids

Trump’s border czar Tom Homan warned NYC mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani after he pledged to stop city cooperation with ICE, vowing intensified action against sanctuary cities.

US President Donald Trump’s top immigration adviser Tom Homan on Friday issued a sharp warning to Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, after Mamdani pledged to stop city cooperation with ICE deportation operations.
“Game on. We’re coming,” said Homan, who serves as Trump’s border czar and senior immigration advisor, during an interview with Fox Business. “He wants to block ICE? We’ll see how that works out for him.”
Homan added that Trump’s team plans to intensify federal action against sanctuary cities. Trump has given wide-ranging powers to his border czar and last month said he would support him if he arrested California Governor Gavin Newsom over protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids.
Mamdani is facing flak from the MAGA camp, with Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene posting an image of Statue Of Liberty draped in a burqa.
“Good luck with that. Federal law trumps him… every day, every hour of every minute,” Homan said in a blunt reaction to Mamdani’s plan to block ICE access.
“We’re going to be in New York City. Matter of fact, because it’s a sanctuary city and President Trump made it clear a week and a half ago, we’re going to double down and triple down on sanctuary cities,” he further added.
Mamdani, 33, stunned many by defeating former governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary earlier this week. A state legislator and longtime activist, Mamdani has said he would end cooperation between the New York Police Department and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), making the city a full sanctuary for immigrants.
“Trump will stop at nothing to attack immigrant New Yorkers. He will do everything in his power to rip our communities apart,” he says in his campaign website and accuses the US President of “tearing at the fabric of New York City”.
