Wajedul Haq, president of the Bengali Minority Intellectual Forum of Trinamool Congress, triggered controversy with his remarks on the Waqf issue, saying he would not hesitate to take an extreme stand to protect it.

Speaking on the matter, Haq said that if becoming radical was necessary to save Waqf, he would do so and fight. He further stated that if one had to become a militant to defend Waqf, he too would become a militant.

“If becoming an extremist is necessary to protect the Waqf, then I too will become an extremist and fight,” he said.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) spokesperson, Vinod Bansal, reacted sharply to controversial remarks made by TMC leader on the Waqf issue. In a post on X, the VHP spokesperson alleged that the Trinamool Congress was inciting Muslims towards violence.

The spokesperson demanded a response from West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over the remarks.

See yourself… What this TMC leader is saying… “If one has to become a militant to protect Waqf, then I will become a militant too and fight”. He is non other than Wajedul Haque, the President of Bengali Minority Intellectual Forum of Trinamool Congress. Trinamool is now inciting Muslims for violance and become terrorists??? The CM @MamataOfficial to please respond,” Bansal wrote on X.

Earlier, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee agreed to implement the Centre’s Waqf Amendment Act, marking a significant shift in the ongoing Centre–state standoff.

The decision comes after prolonged discussions and pressure from the Union government over reforms aimed at improving transparency and accountability in Waqf property management.

The move is expected to impact thousands of Waqf estates across the state and has sparked political reactions from both supporters and critics of the legislation.
