The India U20 women’s national team played out a 1-1 draw against Uzbekistan in the first of two friendly matches at the Do’stlik Stadium in Tashkent, as reported by the official website of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Mexribon Egamberdiyeva (38’) scored the opening goal for the hosts, but Sulanjana Raul (79’) equalised for India late in the second half. The match, initially scheduled for Sunday, was postponed by 24 hours due to operational challenges at the venue.
Egamberdiyeva, who already has four caps for the senior Uzbekistan women’s team, capitalised on her position in the Indian box to score the first goal just minutes before halftime.
India continued to search for an equaliser in the second half, finally achieving it when Sulanjana took advantage of a mix-up in the Uzbekistan penalty area after the defenders failed to clear a Remi Thokchom cross. Sulanjana seized the opportunity and scored to level the match.
The two teams are set to play their second friendly match on Wednesday, July 16, in preparation for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers later this year.
