A fresh encounter broke out on Sunday in the Singhpora area of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, as security forces engaged with terrorists who had previously escaped during operations on January 18 and 22, sources told News18.

The Indian Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Kishtwar reportedly managed to trap two to three terrorists in the area.

All the trapped militants are believed to be members of the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit.

The operation follows a series of recent counter-terror efforts in the region. On Friday, a Pakistani terrorist associated with JeM was killed in a gunfight with security forces in the Billawar area of Kathua district.

Officials said the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs.

The Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army stated that a joint operation had been carried out by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Parhetar in Kathua district on January 23.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, confirmed that the neutralised terrorist, identified as JeM commander Usman, was a Pakistani national.

A substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including an M4 automatic rifle, was recovered from him.
