An SIT has been ordered to probe the fire accident in Kerala’s Kasargod district, while the administration said the additional divisional magistrate will carry out an inquiry separately and submit a report
Two temple officials and the man who allegedly set off the crackers were arrested in connection with the fire accident that took place at a temple in nearby Neeleswaram in Kerala’s Kasargod district.
The police identified the three accused as Rajesh P, Bharathan and Chandrashekharan. Of them, Bharathan and Chandrashekharan were secretary and president of the temple committee, while Rajesh was the one who set off firecrackers during the time of the mishap, police said.
The fire accident during a Theyyam performance late on Monday (October 28) left 154 people injured, eight of them seriously, when firecrackers stored in the vicinity exploded.
Earlier in the day, Kasargod district police chief D Shilpa announced the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the accident. The district administration said the additional divisional magistrate has been directed to carry out an inquiry separately into the incident and submit a report.
According to the police, the incident took place at Anjoottanbalam Veererkavu Temple near Neeleswaram in this northernmost district of Kerala. A case was registered under the Explosive Substance Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
