Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Friday hit back at Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday he warned of “appropriate parliamentary action” following her remarks on the death of Judge Brijgopal Harkishan Loya in the Lok Sabha.
Moitra’s comments sparked an uproar in the Lower House, leading to the House being adjourned briefly twice. Shortly after the disruption, the TMC leader posted on X, stating that it would be Rijiju who would face action for “threatening” her.
“And btw all the media outlets who are reporting that Parliament Affairs Minster warned me – it is he who will face action for threatening me! His remarks to be deleted- not mine!,” she wrote in her post.

During a debate on the 75 years of the Indian Constitution, Moitra made the remark while criticising the ruling BJP for allegedly targeting institutions and opposition leaders to silence critical voices.
The TMC leader remarks also drew condemnation from other BJP leaders. BJP leader Nishikant Dubey first raised the the issue after Moitra’s speech, objecting to her criticism of former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, who had recently retired. Dubey accused Moitra of making insinuations about Loya’s death.
Moitra had referred to Loya’s death, calling it “long before his time,” which led to accusations from Rijiju that she was raising a matter already settled by the Supreme Court.
“We will take appropriate parliamentary action. You cannot escape. You are setting a very wrong precedent,” Rijiju, who is also the parliamentary affairs minister, told the House after her speech. Speaker Om Birla said he would look into the records
The top court had ruled that Loya’s death in 2014 was from natural causes, dismissing any claims of foul play, following an investigation into the matter. The Supreme Court had previously rejected petitions alleging foul play, stating there was no merit in them.
