This ‘Celebrity’ Temple In Madurai Is An Ode To Rajinikanth: ‘How Can We Make Human A God?’ | Video

Rajinikanth needs no introduction. The superstar has amassed a devoted fan following in his career spanning decades. Even today, admirers turn into a frenzy just to catch a glimpse of the Tamil star. Besides his magnetic on-screen presence and signature swagger, Rajinikanth is also known for his humility and larger-than-life charisma, whose aura only grows stronger with time. But do you know that the superstar even has a temple dedicated to him.

A digital creator recently shared a video on Instagram, visiting the “celebrity temple” called Arulmigu Sri Rajini Temple, located in Madurai. S Karthik, a die-hard fan of Rajinikanth, took the initiative to convert a portion of his home in Thirumangalam into a temple.

The 700 sq ft space housed an impressive 3.5 ft tall stone statue of Rajinikanth weighing 300 kgs, which is the key attraction of the temple. The statue features the South superstar striking his iconic pose from the 1989 film Mappillai. There’s also a figurine of an eagle positioned in front. Additionally, visitors can witness more than 5,500 photographs and film cut-outs of the cinema artist pasted on the walls.

That was not all. Even the idols of some popular Hindu Gods had Rajinikanth’s face pasted on them. Pujas and aartis were common rituals practised inside the temple, much like any other shrine. The content creator also revealed that he was treated just like Rajinikanth here.

Internet Reacts To Rajinikanth Temple

One user called Karthik, “the biggest fan in the world.” “He is an Aura,” commented a Rajinikanth admirer. “Thalaivar for a reason,” wrote another. “Rajinikanth Supremacy”, read a remark.

Sharing similar examples of celebrity temples, one person pointed out, “This is not the first time Tamil people have done something like this. Actress Khushboo has a temple at Tiruchirapalli, Namitha has one at Coimbatore, Kajal Agarwal and Hansika have fan-built temples in Tamil Nadu.”

“Honestly, bro, I am also a big fan of Rajnikanth. But how can we make a human being a god, build a temple for him, put his face on a Hindu god?” wrote a critic.
