Exclusive interview with the author

Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?

A: Life itself inspired me, and real‑time experiences pushed me to put this idea on paper.
The seed for this book was planted back in 2017, during a casual poker night with a few close friends. As we played, I found myself observing the unpredictability of the cards, the strategies players used, the risks we took, and the emotional swings we experienced.
At that moment, a thought struck me with surprising clarity: marriage is exactly like this game of poker.
We don’t control the cards we are dealt — our families, circumstances, or personalities — but what truly defines us is how we choose to play our hand.
That single realization stayed with me for years and eventually evolved into this book.

Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?

A: This book invites readers to step into an out‑of‑the‑box perspective where marriage, relationships, and family dynamics are interpreted through the strategic, emotional, and unpredictable world of poker.
Through anecdotes, relatable scenarios, and real‑life reflections, the book demonstrates how:

Marriage requires strategy, patience, and emotional intelligence.
Sometimes you win big with the hand you never expected.
Sometimes even the best cards fail if played without thought.
And most importantly — the outcome is shaped far more by skill, awareness, and adaptability than by luck alone.

The book breaks down complex relational dynamics using the simplicity and familiarity of a game, making the subject engaging, insightful, and surprisingly fun.

Q: What Does The Title Mean?

A: Marriage — A Game of Poker encapsulates the book’s core philosophy:
marriage is a long, unpredictable game where success relies on how you play, not what you’re dealt.
Just like in poker:

You don’t get to choose your starting hand
You must make decisions with limited information
Every move has consequences
Strategy matters
Patience matters even more
And the ability to adapt ultimately determines the outcome

The title reflects this striking parallel — that the game is always in your hands, even when the cards are not.

Q: Was The Character Inspired By A Real Person?

A: Yes, absolutely.
The characters, emotions, and scenarios in this book draw inspiration from many real people — my friends, my close relatives, couples I’ve observed, and even strangers whose stories left an imprint on me.
While the book does not portray any one individual directly, the collective experiences, struggles, victories, and lessons from the people around me shaped the narrative.
In that sense, this book is a tribute to everyone who has navigated marriage with hope, effort, confusion, courage, and resilience.

Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?

A: For this book, the entire journey — from initial concept to the final refined draft — took around 8 to 9 months.
The process was smoother than most writing projects because I had absolute clarity about what I wanted to express. The idea had lived in my mind since 2017, so when I finally began writing, the thoughts flowed naturally.
It was less about searching for inspiration and more about organizing a concept that was already deeply rooted within me.

Q: Where Do You Get Your Information Or Ideas For Your Books?

A: For this book, my ideas came from a blend of real‑life experiences, observations, and iconic poker moments that are publicly available through media and broadcasted tournaments.
I analysed well‑known poker games, legendary plays, and turning points in championship matches — not to talk about poker itself, but to draw metaphorical parallels between strategy at the table and strategy in relationships.
These real scenarios helped me craft examples that readers can relate to, making the abstract idea of marriage‑as‑poker more vivid and practical.

Q: Do You Try More To Be Original Or To Deliver To Readers What They Want?

A: I believe originality is non‑negotiable — and for this book in particular, the concept is something I genuinely feel has never been attempted or expressed in this manner.
At the same time, originality alone is not enough. A writer must also understand the pulse of the reader.
My goal is a balance:
✔️ Offer something fresh and unconventional
✔️ Yet present it in a way that resonates with people’s lived experiences
This book reflects that philosophy — a unique idea, told in a relatable, thoughtful, and meaningful way.

Q: What, In Your Opinion, Are The Most Important Elements Of Good Writing?

A: For me, originality stands at the heart of good writing. The ability to present a thought, an idea, or a perspective that has never been expressed in that way before is what truly distinguishes meaningful writing from ordinary content.
Equally important is the courage to explore concepts that others may not have attempted. Readers today crave authenticity — they want to encounter something fresh, insightful, and intellectually stimulating.
So, for me, the two most essential pillars of good writing are:
(1) originality of thought, and
(2) the ability to craft something genuinely new and never‑before‑written.
These qualities, combined with a deep understanding of the reader’s mindset, make writing powerful and memorable.

Q:How Important Is Research To You When Writing A Book?

A: Research is incredibly important and forms the backbone of any meaningful writing. However, I also believe that certain topics — especially those rooted in human experience — must be tried, tested, and lived rather than simply researched.
In this book, while I did rely on references, examples, and real poker scenarios, much of the insight emerged from observing people, relationships, and life itself.
So for me, research is vital, but intuition and lived experience are equally powerful tools in shaping authentic storytelling.

Q:Do You Believe A Book Cover Plays An Important Role In The Selling Process?

A:Absolutely — the cover page can win you half the battle even before a reader turns to page one.
A compelling cover communicates tone, personality, and intrigue at a single glance. It becomes the first handshake between the reader and the book.
In today’s world, where attention spans are short and options are endless, a well‑designed cover is not just decoration — it is a critical marketing asset and a storyteller in itself.

Q: What Advice Would You Give To Aspiring Authors?

A: My advice is simple: just start writing.
Don’t overthink. Don’t wait for the perfect idea, the perfect time, or the perfect plan.
Most people hold themselves back, not because they lack talent, but because they fear imperfection. Writing is a journey of discovery — the more you write, the more you evolve.
So take the first step, trust your voice, and remember:
you are the only one standing between you and the best version of yourself.
