Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday took to X to highlight the law and order issue in the state and said that the criminals have “absolutely no fear” of the government or the police, citing an incident in which some miscreants hurled bombs on a police vehicle on the Trichy-Chennai highway.
Palaniswami stated that while Chief Minister M K Stalin was “patting his own back and boasting” in the state Legislative Assembly, “some mysterious people hurled country-made bombs at a police vehicle near the Perambalur toll plaza”.
Palaniswami, in his post on X, said that the police vehicle was attacked when they were escorting a rowdy known as Vellai Kali from Madurai. The individual is linked to several criminal cases and was being escorted for interrogation.

Citing media reports, the AIADMK leader said that four police personnel who were giving protection to the accused suffered serious injuries in the attack and were admitted to the hospital.
He further said that the incident portrayed a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
“It seems those engaging in criminal acts have absolutely no fear of either the police or this government. In a situation where law and order is being made a laughingstock, one wonders who the Chief Minister will try to blame for this incident,” Palaniswami said.
He further alleged that the DMK government has been curbing the independence of the police.
“I strongly condemn Chief Minister @mkstalin for not allowing the police to act independently,” said Palaniswami.

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran also slammed the DMK government over the incident.
“The incident of a country-made bomb being thrown at policemen escorting a notorious rowdy near Thirumandurai in Perambalur district is utterly shocking,” Nagenthran said in a post on X.

He said that the attack is a reflection of a steep decline in law and order under the DMK regime. “Not only has public safety been eroded, now even the safety of uniformed policemen is being plundered,” the Tamil Nadu BJP president said, and questioned if this was “good governance”.
He added that the people no longer tolerate a government that “postures on social media while public safety is compromised”.
