The former Spanish midfielder revealed that the players and fans of the Catalan club are quite serious about El Classico as they can never accept being defeated by Real Madrid.

Former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has shared some insights about the club in a recently released Netflix documentary series on La Liga. Besides speaking about his time at the helm, Xavi shed light on the iconic rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The former Spanish midfielder revealed that the players and fans of the Catalan club are quite serious about El Classico as they can never accept being defeated by Real Madrid. “The most important thing for Barca and Barca fans is to be above Real Madrid,” Xavi said in the La Liga docuseries.

His comment has become quite viral among Real Madrid fans. One of them shared a clip of Xavi’s Netflix interview on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “These guys do not care about winning trophies, only beating Real Madrid.”

Xavi Hernandez, who spent most of his club career at Barcelona, is regarded as a legend of Spanish football. He played a key role in the country’s FIFA World Cup triumph in 2010. Xavi played his first official match for Barcelona in August 1998, featuring in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup final in Palma. He marked his debut with a long-range strike, but Mallorca beat Barcelona 2-1.

Xavi stayed at the Catalan club for 17 seasons and won 32 trophies. He made 869 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions and netted 97 goals. With the trio of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in the midfield, Barcelona lifted four Champions League titles and became the La Liga champions eight times.

Xavi was appointed the manager of Barcelona in November 2021, replacing Ronald Koeman. During his time at the helm, the team won the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup in the 2022-23 season.

Xavi’s men, however, failed to replicate the success in the following campaign. The Barca hierarchy decided to part ways with Xavi earlier in May and announced former Germany manager Hansi Flick as the new coach.
