The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday slammed Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of promoting Nathuram Godse’s ideology in the country.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla responded sharply to Reddy’s remark, taking a jibe at him by bringing up the ongoing Kancha Gachibowli land dispute. He even compared him to Adolf Hitler.
“Revanth Reddy ji, the entire country knows who acted like Hitler and Indira Gandhi when trying to seize the forest land belonging to Hyderabad University,” Poonawalla said in a video message. “You also tried to destroy the city’s green spaces.”
He reminded the Telangana CM of the Supreme Court’s recent order against the state government’s actions concerning the 400-acre land dispute. This land issue has sparked strong protests from Hyderabad University students over the past few weeks.
“The Supreme Court has taken serious note of this matter. After the arrests of students and journalists, everyone can see who is behaving like a Hitler,” he added.
The University of Hyderabad Students’ Union (UoHSU) had staged an indefinite protest and boycotted classes after the state announced plans to develop the 400-acre plot near the university. However, the protests were called off after the Supreme Court stayed all development work until further notice.
Reddy made the remarks about PM Modi earlier today at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting in Ahmedabad, which was attended by the party’s top brass including Rahul Gandhi.
