Videos Show Huge Rush At New Delhi Station Amid Stampede-Like Situation As Hundreds Flock To Kumbh – News18

At least 15 people died in the stampede-like situation at the New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday. Horrifc videos showing a large crowd on the platform attempting to enter the train surfaced.

Horrific videos surfaced, showing a large crowd of passengers attempting to enter the already-crowded train on the platform of the New Delhi Railway Station where a stampede-like situation killed 15 people, including three children on Saturday evening.
As many as 15 people died while 10 others were injured in a stampede-like situation that triggered chaos on platforms number 14 and 15 at the station, Chief Casualty Medical Officer, LNJP hospital said.
The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
At around 10 pm, the passengers were waiting for their respective trains, including the one – Prayagraj Express – going to Prayagraj where Maha Kumbh is being organised. The train was standing at platform number 14 where the sudden rush of passengers created chaos at the platform.
The visuals emerged from the spot, showing a large crowd waiting for the train on the platforms at the station while the passengers were also seen attempting to enter the crowded train.
The video showed passengers trying hard to make a move inside the train. Little children were also seen in the laps of their parents trying to board the train.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Railway, KPS Malhotra, a huge crowd was present at the platform when Prayagraj Express was standing at platform number 14.
Two trains — Swatantrata Senani Express and Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani — were also delayed, causing the passengers to wait on platform numbers 12, 13 and 14.
“As per the information, 1500 general tickets were sold – that’s why the crowd became uncontrollable. There was a stampede-like situation at platform no. 14 and near the escalator,” he said.
The situation was brought under control as the Delhi Police and RPF arrived at the spot. The police earlier said that no loss of lives was reported in the mishap.
“Due to the large number of passengers, some reported experiencing breathlessness,” officials said.
The Railways has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
“An unprecedented rush situation developed today at about 10 pm in New Delhi railway station near platforms 13 & 14. Some of the passengers present there on the platforms fainted due to this sudden rush further leading to the rumours of stampede-like situation. This led to the spread of panic. The situation was later controlled by easing the rush situation. Northern Railways immediately ran four special trains to evacuate the unprecedented sudden rush. Now rush has been reduced. In the meanwhile, the fainted & injured passengers have been taken to nearby hospitals by RPF & Delhi Police. A high level inquiry has been ordered by the Railways on the unfortunate incident,” the Ministry of Railways earlier said.
