The movie Ghilli portraying Vijay as an action hero gained immense popularity among fans for its compelling storyline, thrilling fight scenes, captivating music, and heartwarming romance.
It is a Tamil remake of the Telugu movie Okkadu, featuring Mahesh Babu and directed by Dharani. Interestingly, Ghilli has outperformed the original Okkadu at the box office, earning twice as much.
As per reports, before casting Vijay and Trisha for the film Ghilli, the makers offered the role to Vikram as the main lead. Director Dharani, known for his successful films with Vikram like Dhill and Dhool decided to cast him initially.
He even planned to cast actress Jyothika as the female lead. However, both Vikram and Jyothika declined the offer due to prior commitments.
As per recent reports, the makers are planning to re-release the film Ghilli tomorrow, April 20.
In the film, Vijay portrays a young man striving to make a career in Kabbadi, facing several challenges along the way. While Vijay’s role mirrors that of Mahesh Babu’s from the original version, the Tamil actor’s performance surpasses the original in several key scenes.
On the other hand, Trisha played the female lead in Ghilli and was paired up with Vijay for the first time in the film. Trisha’s character added more power to the film’s story as she drove the film ahead from a certain point. The team up worked well and the duo then was seen together in multiple films.
Ghilli ran in theatres for more than 200 weeks and earned over Rs 50 crores, marking Vijay’s first major success. Following its box office triumph, Vijay gained significant backing from filmmakers. Consequently, he rose to prominence as the leading figure in Tamil cinema.
