Sable became the first Indian to earn a berth in the finals of 3000m Steeplechase by finishing fifth in his heat with a timing of 8:15.43 minutes. However, there was heartbreak for India elsewhere with Lakshya Sena and the mixed skeet team failing in the bronze medal fixtures.
Indian athlete Avinash Sable rewrote the history books as he became the first Indian to make the final of the 3000m Steeplechase event as he finished fifth in his heat on Monday at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, team India’s thrust to increase the medal tally at the quadrennial on the day took a hit on as Lakshya Sen was defeated by Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal playoff game. A similar fate awaited the mixed skeet shooting team of Maheshwari Chauhan and Anantjeet Singh as they were edged out by their Chinese counterparts.
Here are the complete results of Indian athletes from Day 10 of the Paris Olympics 2024:
Shooting: Skeet Mixed Team Qualification– Maheshwari Chauhan and Anantjeet Singh Naruka finished fourth as they went down to China’s Jiang Yiting and Lyu Jianlin 44-53 in the bronze medal engagement.
Table Tennis: Women’s Team Round of 16– India beat Romania 3-2 to earn a quarterfinal berth.
Athletics: Women’s 400m Round 1– Pahal Kiran clocked a time of 52.51 to come in seventh in her heat of the 400m event and will take part in the repechage round for a berth in the semis.
Badminton: Men’s Singles Bronze Medal Match– Lakshya Sen lost to Zii Jia Lee 21-13, 16-21, 11-21 in the bronze medal match in the biggest disappointment of the day.
Wrestling: Women’s 68kg Freestyle Pre-quarterfinal– Nisha Dahiya moved into the quarters of the event with a 6-4 win over Ukraine’s Sova Rizhko.
Wrestling: Women’s 68kg Freestyle Quarterfinal– Nisha Dahiya was handed a defeat by North Korea’s Sol Gum Pak in the quarterfinal of the 68 Kg wrestling event as the Indian went down 8-10.
Athletics: Men’s 3000m Steeplechase Round 1– Avinash Sable scripted history as he became the first Indian to earn a finals berth in the 3000m Steeplechase event by finishing fifth in his heat with a timing of 8:15.43 minutes to qualify among the top 15 in the event.
