Ratan Tata Dies At 86: Updates: Ratan Tata’s Last Journey Begins, Body To Be Kept For Public Viewing Till 3:30 pm
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the last rites of industrialist Ratan Tata on behalf of the Government of India. Currently, Ratan Tata’s body is kept at NCPA lawns, Nariman Point in Mumbai for people to pay their respects and homage to the philanthropist.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the last rites of Mr Tata will be performed with full state honours. During this period, the national flag will fly at half-mast in government offices in the state and no entertainment or entertainment programs will be organized. CM has announced state mourning on Thursday (October 10).
Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and a philanthropist, died on October 9. He was 86. He was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital in a critical condition, where he breathed his last. Several politicians and industry leaders have expressed shock and grief over RatanTata‘s death.
In a statement, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said, “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences on Mr Tata’s death. He called him “a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being”.

Ratan Tata’s Last Rites To Be Held At Worli Crematorium
Ratan Tata’s mortal remains will be brought to the Parsi crematorium in Worli at around 4 pm. The body will be kept in the prayer hall where around 200 people can be present. Prayer will be held here for about 45 minutes. Following this, the body will be kept in an electric crematorium and the funeral process will be completed.
Ratan Tata, graduate of Cornell University, joined the class of 1959 to study mechanical engineering. However, two years later, he decided to major in architecture instead. But he didn’t pursue a career in architecture either as he was called back to the family business.
“When Ratan Tata graduated from Cornell with a degree in architecture, it would have been impossible to imagine the global impact his visionary leadership, philanthropy and commitment to humanity would go on to have – advancing education and research across many sectors,” said J. Meejin Yoon, the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of AAP. “Looking back over Ratan’s life and career, I am not only filled with gratitude for all he has given and accomplished, but also with a deep respect for his kindness, generosity and eternal optimism that has improved lives in India and around the world.”

In honour of veteran industrialist Padma Vibushan Ratan Tata, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced state mourning on Thursday (October 10). This will be a state funeral as a tribute to Ratan Tata. Public has been requested to enter NCPA Lawns from gate number 3 and exit from gate number 2. There will be no parking available at the premises. At 3.30 pm, the body will be taken for the final rites.
