Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a retired railway employee for allegedly murdering a woman with whom he was in an extramarital relationship, along with his second wife and their son, for helping dispose of the body after it was burnt, officials said.
The main accused, Ram Singh Parihar, 63, retired as a senior technician from Indian Railways in 2022. Police said he had two wives, both named Geeta, living separately in Jhansi. He allegedly referred to the victim, Preeti Raikwar, 32, as his “third wife.”
According to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Parihar met Raikwar around a decade ago. She was married with three children and lived in Dely village. Over time, the two began meeting frequently and later moved into a rented house in the Lehar Gaon area.
Police said Parihar claimed Raikwar had begun demanding money frequently and quarrelling when it was not given. He also alleged she had started seeing another man, a retired army personnel who owned a beauty salon. “Fed up with the alleged exploitation and her relationship with another man, he decided to kill her,” the SSP said.
Investigators said Parihar allegedly killed Raikwar with an axe on January 8, then burnt the body and concealed the remains in a large blue trunk. His second wife, Geeta, and their 19-year-old son, Nitin, allegedly helped him. Police said he procured a large quantity of firewood to burn the remains. An earlier attempt to dispose of the body in a blue drum was abandoned after the body did not fit; the drum was later recovered from the crime scene.
The plan to dump the trunk unravelled when Nitin hired a loader autorickshaw to move it past midnight to their Saiyar Gate residence. The driver, Jai Singh Pal, grew suspicious and alerted the police, leading to the arrests.
A preliminary examination found burnt bone fragments and charcoal-like material inside the trunk. A forensic team has been called for detailed analysis. During questioning, Geeta told police about Parihar’s extramarital relationship and said he confessed to the killing to her, citing harassment over money.
Police later inspected the rented room in Lehar Gaon, where initial findings corroborated the commission of the crime. Further investigation is underway.
