**Romil TNV** is a writer and filmmaker crafting stories that linger in the mind long after the last page is turned. His debut novel, *Umber Oblivion*, is a deep dive into themes of memory, identity, and the shadows we leave behind. With a background in journalism, including work with *The New Indian Express*, Romil brings a sharp, observant style to his fiction, blending realism with a touch of the surreal. When he’s not writing, Romil is immersed in the world of cinema—directing, scripting, and shaping narratives that challenge and captivate. *Umber Oblivion* is the culmination of years of storytelling experience, a book that reflects his relentless pursuit of meaning through words and visuals. Currently, he resides in Kerala, where he balances writing with filmmaking—and keeping up with his energetic Labrador puppy.
Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?
A: Writing has always been my way of making sense of chaos—internal, external, and often both. I never sat down to write something with the intention of creating beauty. Instead, I wrote because I couldn’t carry it all inside anymore. I wrote for the quiet corners of my memories, for the fragments of heartbreak and glimpses of joy that refused to fade. I wrote because torment needed a voice, and if not mine, then whose? This book is not structured around perfect arcs or happy endings. It is messy. It stumbles. It bleeds. And that is exactly what makes it real. From childhood traumas to complicated love, from the absence of my mother to the silent strength of my father, every page is an offering of my vulnerability.
Q: What Does The Title Mean?
A: Umber meaning – brown which is me and oblivion meaning my oblivion of thoughts.
Q: Do You Try More To Be Original Or To Deliver To Readers What They Want?
A: I don’t think i have anything to deliver because my content is catharsis it fails to be what people expect it to be.
Q: What Is The Most Difficult Part About Writing For You?
A: When i narrate it in my head it all seems very interesting but then i stumble when i put it down on paper.
