Exclusive interview with the author
Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?
A: Book Overview The Volk is the first installment in a planned four-part series set in “The Volk Universe,” blending screenplay and novel formats into what the author calls “Scrovel.” The story follows privileged adventurers like Amelia, Khalid, and Jason facing deadly peril in Siberia, rescued by the enigmatic Volk—a lone survivor with amnesia living among wolves and huskies. Parallel narratives explore Volk’s brutal past as an assassin trained in the desert and potential ties to Shiva, a Kashmiri man whose life of business ambition and personal roots unravels mysteriously. Inspiration Sources What inspired you to write this book? My soulmate Sheena sparked the idea after hearing my wild dreams and saying one sounded like a movie; friends like Magistrate Adnan Naqshbandi envisioned it as a TV series or Studio Ghibli anime. Personal travels to Kashmir and Ladakh immersed me in authentic landscapes, with locals and friends aiding translations for realism.
Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?
A: This screenplay-novel hybrid delivers fast-paced, cinematic action across Siberian wilds, royal palaces, and deserts, focusing on survival, lost memories, and hidden identities. After 6-8 months experimenting with styles like novellas, I chose self-publishing via OrangeBooks to release this fresh format for busy readers craving immersive, screen-like stories beyond endless online content.
Q: What Does The Title Mean?
A: “Volk” evokes a lone wolf, symbolizing the protagonist’s animalistic survival instincts, amnesia-forged isolation, and bond with wolves Yuki and Zeus in Siberia’s silence. It captures his transformation from a memory-less assassin to a primal force of nature.
Q: Was The Character Inspired By A Real Person?
A: Volk emerges from imagined extremes of resilience, not a single real person—his erased past, desert training under Yousuf and Mark, and Siberian solitude blend fictional grit with universal survival themes. Shiva’s Kashmiri youth draws from cultural authenticity gained via travels and local insights
Q: What Do You Think Happened To The Characters After The Book Ended?
A: The second part of The Volk series dives deeper into the universe with Volk venturing back into civilization after his Siberian isolation. He seeks out his old friend and mentor Mark, whose mysterious death under suspicious circumstances unveils the gritty origins of their assassin organization. This installment ramps up the intrigue, blending high-stakes action with flashbacks to their brutal training in the desert, revealing more of Volk’s erased past and setting up escalating conflicts across future editions.
Q: How Long Does It Take You To Write A Book?
A: This first book took around 12-13 months of style experimentation before settling on Scrovel, prioritizing quick release over chasing publishers
Q: When Did You Write Your First Book And How Old Were You?
A: The Volk is my first book and I was 33 at the time I started writing this one.
Q: Do You Have Any Suggestions To Help Others To Become A Better Writer? If So, What Are They?
A: Experiment boldly with formats like Scrovel despite resistance. Travel for immersion and authenticity in settings/dialogue. Self-publish to share stories quickly for eager readers.
Q: Do You Try More To Be Original Or To Deliver To Readers What They Want?
A: Originality drives me but you can’t be delivering something that is not accepted by readers. This is my attempt to a new writing pattern and definitely audiences feedback will decide whether they would like to see my originality.
Q: What, In Your Opinion, Are The Most Important Elements Of Good Writing?
A: I think authors many times wander around with details that are unnecessary and make novels lengthy. In my opinion, the most important element of good writing is that your audience is so immersed in your book that they want to move on to next page withh excitement.
Q: What Does Success Mean To You? What Is The Definition Of Success?
A: I believe money is a medium to do something. I would consider this book a success if it gets adapted to thhe larger screen and I’m able to build the Volk Universe across editions
Q: Tell Us About Your First Published Book? What Was The Journey Like?
A: Self-published via OrangeBooks in 2025 after rejecting novellas; journey involved dream sparks, travels, collaborations, and choosing speed over agents.
Q: How Important Is Research To You When Writing A Book?
A: Very Important. I travelled myself to Kashmir and ladakh for this .
Q: What Advice Would You Give To Aspiring Authors?
A: Prioritize fresh storytelling for modern audiences.
