10-year-old Sharvaanica AS is the World Under-10 Girls Chess Champion 2025. She won a gold medal in the World U-10 Girls Cadets Chess Championship on Tuesday (September 10). The chess player from Tamil Nadu scored 9/11 points to win the yellow metal.

Sharvaanica started her campaign with a loss in the first round but went on to win the next 9 games in a row.

In the final round, which was played on Tuesday, Sharvaanica suffered a defeat against the USA’s Zhou Abigail.

Nandinjiguur Chinzorig from Mongolia drew her game on board 2 and also finished with 9 points. But the first tiebreak was a direct encounter, and since Sharvaanica had defeated Nandinjiguur earlier in the event, she was crowned the champion.

Tamil Nadu’s deputy Chief Minister Thiru Udhayanidhi Stalin posted a tweet to congratulate the 10-year-old on her feat.

“Another proud moment for Tamil Nadu as our very own Sharvaanica A.S. emerges as a World Chess Champion at just 10 years old! She clinched the World Under-10 Girls Chess Championship 2025, scoring 9/11 points and bringing home the Gold. Though lost Round 1 of the tournament, she made a sensational comeback by winning the next 9 consecutive games. The Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation supported her with Rs.2.37 lakhs to participate in this Competition and Sharvaanica is also part of SDAT’s Champions Development Scheme. I wholeheartedly congratulate Sharvaanica and wish her many more successful moves and a future filled with medals. SDAT is proud to be supporting this young sensation!,” Udhay wrote in the now viral tweet.
