The residence of six-time world boxing champion and Olympic medalist, MC Mary Kom, in Sector 46, Faridabad, was allegedly targeted by thieves this week. The burglary, which is reported to have occurred on September 24, came to light when the celebrated athlete was away from home, participating in a half-marathon event in Sohra, Meghalaya.

The incident was confirmed by police officials on Saturday after the champion boxer reported the break-in. Police teams immediately reached the premises to begin the investigation. The full extent of the loss is currently being assessed, as Mary Kom herself confirmed that she was not at home and would only know the complete list of stolen items upon her return. However, initial checks and review of the local security footage have provided some immediate facts.

According to sources close to the boxer and police information, the burglary was discovered when neighbours noticed suspicious activity and alerted the authorities. CCTV footage recovered from the area reportedly shows the suspects making away with several items, with Mary Kom stating that a “TV and other things” were stolen.

Faridabad Police have registered an FIR and have launched a full-scale probe into the incident, with multiple teams formed to investigate and identify the culprits. They are currently analysing the CCTV footage to determine the exact number of individuals involved and their modus operandi.

The incident has caused significant distress to the iconic sportswoman, who expressed her shock and worry while still in Meghalaya. The break-in at the home of one of India’s most decorated and respected athletes underscores the persistent challenges faced by residents regarding property security, even in well-established residential sectors.

The community and police are now focused on a speedy investigation to apprehend the thieves and recover the stolen property.

Mary Kom’s legendary career includes being the only woman to win the World Amateur Boxing Championship six times and securing a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
