US Attacks Venezuela Updates: Days after being flown to New York after his dramatic seizure in Caracas during a US military operation, deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro pleaded “not guilty” on Monday as he made his first appearance before a US federal court in Manhattan on drug trafficking and narco-terrorism charges.
The 63-year-old former leader was accused by US authorities of heading a state-backed drug trafficking network that conspired with international criminal groups to smuggle large quantities of cocaine into the US.
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Vice-President and oil minister Delcy Rodriguez was formally sworn in as the country’s interim president as deposed President Nicolas Maduro appeared in a New York court on drug charges
Meanwhile, heavy gunfire and reports of possible drone activity near Venezuela’s presidential palace triggered fresh security concerns in Caracas early on Tuesday. The country remains on edge following the US-led operation that resulted in the capture and removal of President Nicolas Maduro.
