WATCH: Brazilian Wunderkind Estevao Willian’s Brilliant Finish for Palmeiras Leaves Bahia Manager In Disbelief – News18
Chelsea wunderkind Estevao Willian’s future at Stamford Bridge looks bright as he has hit new heights in Brazil once again. The 17-year-old Latin American talent stole the limelight with a superb finish for Palmeiras. Competing in his last season with the Brazilian side, Willian showcased his quick movement and finishing to score the opener against Bahia yesterday.
The teenager even drew an exasperated response from the other bench. Having witnessed the goal, Bahia Head Coach and Sau Paulo icon Rogerio Ceni turned away in frustration. As per The Standard, Ceni exclaimed and said, “You can’t f****ng mark this guy.”
Estevao’s brilliant finish at the Allianz Parque yesterday came during the added time of the first half. After getting the ball during a counterattack, the youngster sprinted from inside his own half and then cut past a helpless defender. He then sent an unstoppable curler into the top corner. Seeing his outstanding goal, the excitement continued to build rapidly around Chelsea fans over his swift progress as a football star. Willian’s goal was followed by another finish from Rony. The young duo’s heroics were enough for Palmerias to claim a comfortable 2-0 win.
Just last month it was announced by Chelsea that they had signed Estevao Willian on a long-term contract. The contract included a €34 million payment to Palmeiras upfront. An additional amount of €23 million is to be paid to the side based on the player’s performance. Willian will move to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2025. The reason behind the delayed move is current UEFA regulations that do not allow European clubs to make signings of foreign underage talents. Willian will be able to complete the move only when he turns 18.
As for his ongoing season, Estevao Willian has set the Brazilian Serie A alight. He has made 15 appearances for Palmeiras this season, scoring five times while providing three assists. He will likely start for the Brazilian side once again when they take on Atletico GO on Thursday, July 11. The match will be important for the Palmeiras as they hope to go atop the table, overtaking teams like Flamengo and Botafogo.
