The temple town of Ayodhya is gearing up for the grand “dhawajarohan” (flag hoisting) ceremony at Ram Janmabhoomi temple, scheduled to take place on November 25. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist a saffron flag atop the 161-foot-high main spire of the temple, marking a historic first when all seven spires of the temple will be adorned with saffron flags.

In the wake of the grand ceremony, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will hold a high-level review meeting in the city on Tuesday and personally inspect all arrangements related to the event, including venues associated with PM Modi’s visit.

According to officials, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to welcome guests in the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava”, with thousands of saints, VVIPs, dignitaries and foreign guests expected to attend. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust said the hoisting of the Bhagwa flag on the sanctum tower will be an “emotional and historic moment for crores of devotees.”

The ceremony will be performed jointly by PM Modi and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The event coincides with Vivah Panchami, the day when the divine wedding of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita is celebrated across Ayodhya.

Extensive Preparations Underway

Meanwhile, extensive preparations are underway for the event, with senior state officials and members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust stationed in Ayodhya. Officials said that the prime minister’s and the chief minister’s offices are tracking every development in real time.

The event will be broadcast live across major television channels and digital platforms, with a 200-foot-wide LED screen installed inside the Ram Janmabhoomi complex and over 30 large screens placed across the city for public viewing.

To accommodate guests, 1,600 rooms have been booked in Ayodhya and nearby facilities, including Karsevakpuram, Ramsevakpuram, and Teerth Kshetra Puram, where bedding and blankets have been arranged considering the winter chill.

Massive Security Arrangements

A multi-layer security grid will be deployed across Ayodhya on November 25. Thousands of personnel from the UP Police, PAC, CRPF and intelligence agencies will be stationed throughout the city. Drone surveillance and city-wide CCTV monitoring will supplement on-ground deployments to manage the unprecedented influx of visitors.

Ayodhya Tourism Boom

Ayodhya is witnessing an extraordinary rise in tourist inflow since the inauguration of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple.

In 2023, before the temple’s completion, Ayodhya recorded 57.5 million visitors. After the Ram Temple was inaugurated, this number soared to over 160 million in 2024. In just the first six months of 2025, more than 230 million devotees visited Ram Lalla.

The scale of this footfall surpasses annual tourist numbers recorded by destinations like the Taj Mahal, Varanasi, Mathura, and even by many countries. This massive influx has propelled Ayodhya’s annual economic activity to an estimated Rs 8,000– Rs 12,500 crore.

By 2028, Uttar Pradesh’s tourism sector is projected to cross ₹70,000 crore, with Ayodhya playing a central role in this growth.

Ayodhya currently contributes around 1.5% to Uttar Pradesh’s GSDP and plays a pivotal role in the state’s trillion-dollar roadmap.
