Maran emphasised on the importance of all the progress the Hyderabad side had made this season, from finishing dead-last in the group stages in the previous edition and shone light on the spectacular season that SRH mustered
They tried hard, got far, and in the end, the progress still does and will matter. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s co-owner Kaviya Maran recognised the same, as she went on to applaud and appreciate the IPL finalists on the hugely successful season they had, despite their inability to win the big prize.
The dominant Hyderabad side had a trailblazing league stage, where they finished 2nd, and fell short just one step away from glory, as the Kolkata Knight Riders plundered them to clinch the IPL 2024 title on Sunday.
After the team’s crushing defeat, Kaviya was seen making her way to the players’ dressing room and delivered a heartfelt talk, conveying her appreciation and gratitude for the team and their performance this season.
“You guys have really made us all so proud. I had to come here and tell you that. I mean, you’ve redefined the way we play T20 cricket and everyone is talking about us. The off day had to happen today but really, great job by all of you with the bat and the ball,” said Maran in a clip that was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad on their official X handle.
Maran emphasised on the importance of all the progress the Hyderabad side had made this season, from finishing dead-last in the group stages in the previous edition and shone light on the spectacular season that SRH mustered, dominating teams with the bat, and redefining high-octane batting with their unrelenting performances.
“Even though we finished last place last year, I think all the fans came out in huge numbers this time because of the potential you guys had. Everyone’s talking about us. Even though KKR won, everyone will still be talking about the style of cricket we’ve played. We played the finals, it wasn’t just any other game. I mean, all the other teams were watching us today. So, thank you so much,” stated a grateful and humbled Kavya Maran to the SRH players.
Unfortunately for SRH, KKR showcased a clinical effort with the ball to dismiss SRH for 113, the lowest-ever total in an IPL title clash. Later, they easily chased down the target with as many as 57 balls to spare. Venkatesh Iyer scored a match-winning half-century while wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz made a notable contribution of 39 runs off 32 balls, with 2 sixes and 5 boundaries.
Earlier, Mitchell Starc (2/14), Andre Russell (3/19) and Harshit Rana (2/24) were the most successful bowlers for the Knight Riders, as SRH simply failed to turn up for the big game, and lost out on the big prize.
