NEW DELHI: The opposition parties that have come together under the banner of INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) will start holding talks for seat sharing at the earliest. The INDIA parties will also hold their first joint rally in October in Bhopal in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.
This was decided at the first meeting of the 14-member coordination committee of INDIA held today in the national capital.
The coordination committee, which was constituted during the third meeting of the anti-BJP alliance held in Mumbai, also decided to take up the issue of caste census. 12 parties attended today’s meeting. The Trinamool Congress did not attend the meeting as its nominee Abhishek Banerjee was called for ED questioning today.
JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha said, “Discussion happened on seat sharing and state wise the parties will finalise it soon.” National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, who was part of the coordination panel meeting, said, “The seats that are already held by members of the INDIA block should not be open for discussion, we should be discussing the seats held by the BJP, NDA or parties that are not part of either of those alliances.”
AAP leader Raghav Chadha said “The coordination committee has authorised its sub-group on media to decide which anchors of various channels the INDIA parties will boycott.”
Today’s meeting of INDIA parties came against the backdrop of the success of the opposition bloc in the recently concluded bypolls to 7 assembly seats across 6 states. Four INDIA parties won 4 seats in 4 states. Their victory in UP’s Ghosi was significant as they all backed the Samajwadi Party against the BJP. However, in West Bengal and Kerala the allies fought against each other.
