Daikin’s new integrated room AC, compressor manufacturing facility goes on-stream in AP – Times of India
HYDERABAD: Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd, Japan, on Thursday said it has commercialised its integrated air-conditioning and compressor manufacturing facility at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.
The new facility, which is spread across 75.5 acres, will have a capacity to manufacture 1.5 million room air-conditioners (ACs) and 3 million compressors for room ACs per annum.
The Japanese player said this is its third unit in India and is part of the Rs 2,800 crore investments it has made in India.
Daikin said the new facility is strategically positioned to cater to the increasing demand for air conditioning products manufactured in India, both domestically and internationally.
It will focus on developing climate-friendly air conditioning solutions for markets in West Africa, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Middle East, South America, and East Africa, it added.
The factory, for which the foundation stone was laid in April 2022, aligns with Daikin’s aspiration to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the company said.
Daikin also pointed out that it is the principal investor in the production linked incentive (PLI) programme in the air-conditioning category, which has been implemented by the Indian government to encourage domestic production of air conditioners.
Daikin India chairman & managing director KJ Jawa said the facility will not only give the company’s production capabilities and capacities a significant boost but will also strengthen its position as a provider of energy-efficient and sustainable HVAC solutions in the region.
Daikin Industries president & CEO Masanori Togawa said the Japanese giant has 100 production units globally and a customer base in over 170 countries but India holds a special significance.
“As we expand our manufacturing footprint in India… the country’s dynamic market and skilled workforce align perfectly with our mission. The new facility will not only elevate the standard of HVAC solutions but also contribute significantly to the growth of the industry in India and the surrounding regions,” Togawa said.
The Rs 8,860 crore turnover Daikin India is a part of the US$29 billion Daikin Global.
