NEW DELHI: India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul mostly comes out as an opener for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), but former India opener Aakash Chopra on Monday said the 31-year-old needs to bat at number four if he wants to play the all-important T20 World Cup.
The upcoming ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 4 to 30 this year, hosted jointly by the West Indies and the United States.
“You might see KL Rahul at No. 4. If he wants to play the World Cup, he probably needs to bat at No. 4 (for LSG in the IPL). You might see one among Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni and Prerak Mankad playing at No. 3. They have plenty of options available to get the work done,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“After No. 4, they (LSG) have Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis and Ayush Badoni along with Krunal Pandya down the order. Suddenly you see a lot of depth in the batting. So they have prepared a very good team,” Chopra further added.

KL Rahul had an impressive run in the ODI World Cup held in India last year.
The right-hander played 11 matches and scored 452 runs at an average of 75.33. He also scored one century and two fifties in the quadrennial event.
Rahul is currently part of the India squad for the five-match Test series against England.
The opening Test will be played from January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
