Nitish Kumar set to dump RJD, may take oath as Bihar chief minister again with BJP’s support next week | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar is all set to dump the ruling Bihar Mahagathbandhan, which also includes Lalu Prasad’s RJD and the Congress, and return back to the fold of BJP-led NDA. According to sources in JD(U), Nitish Kumar will resign and take oath as chief minister again on Monday with the support of the BJP.
In the last 11 years, Nitish has oscillated literally like a pendulum between the BJP and the RJD, while ensuring that he stays the chief minister of the state. In the process, Nitish has earned the dubious distinction of being called the “Paltu Ram” of Bihar politics.
Nitish had walked out of the BJP-led NDA in August 2022 to join hands with the RJD and form the Mahagathbandhan government. Nitish had first parted ways with the BJP in 2013 ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He returned back to the BJP fold in 2017 to again walk out of the NDA in 2022. JD(U) sources said Nitish is likely to share stage with Prime Minister Modi at a function to be held at Sugauli in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Feb 4.
The JD(U) sources said the main reason behind the party’s latest move was the lack of coordination among the INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) bloc. The party leaders blamed the Congress for the crisis. The JD(U) leaders have been openly critical of the Congress in the recent past and have blamed the grand old party for delaying the seat-sharing talks for the opposition alliance. The JD(U) leaders are also angry with the Congress for not projecting Nitish Kumar as the leader of the opposition alliance.
