PATNA: With the D-Day approaching closer, the NDA allies in Bihar are trying their best to keep their legislators intact by engaging them in various programs and meetings, even as the opposition Congress has already shifted its MLAs to Hyderabad, fearing poaching by rival camps.
The BJP, a major partner in the NDA with 78 members in the state assembly, has planned to hold a two-day training session for them in Bodh Gaya, some 120 km south of the state capital. The training session will start on February 10 and conclude the very next day—just ahead of the trust vote the NDA government will seek on February 12, party officials informed on Thursday.
A senior BJP official said the party had organized a two-day training session for its MLAs as well as general secretaries in the land of Buddha. The leaders will be imparted training about various issues keeping in view the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
He said the training would focus on organizational structure, the party’s national programs, and how they need to inform the masses about what schemes have been launched for them by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and how the common men have benefited from it.
The leaders attending the training session would also be made aware of the party leadership, ideology, future, and alliance politics.
But what has raised questions is the timing of the training session and reports of disenchantment among some NDA legislators over some issues. “There is nothing like keeping the MLAs united through this training session,” state BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma clarified on Thursday, blaming it on timing.
“Samay kuchh aisa hai isliye log ees tarah ka anuman laga rahe hain (people guess about such things due to timing of the training session),” Sharma explained, adding such programs were routine with the BJP.
The JD(U) led by CM Nitish Kumar has convened a meeting of party legislators at the residence of parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary on February 11. “The meeting is very important in view of the floor test and the no-confidence motion moved against the assembly Speaker by the NDA,” JD(U)’s national spokesperson Rajib Ranjan said on Thursday, adding their entire party MLAs were united. JD(U) has 45 MLAs.
“Our MLAs are united and see their bright future in the existing set-up. Why would they put their political career at stake by crossing over to the opposition camp?” Ranjan asked, asserting the chief minister was very much comfortable with the present scenario.
He also hit out at the Speaker for refusing to resign, saying the latter had taken a new plea that he received the no-confidence notice only a day back while it was sent to his secretariat long back. “He is buying time and looks inspired by his boss,” he alleged.
The fresh development comes amid the Congress shifting its legislators to Hyderabad amid reports that the ruling coalition is trying to poach them ahead of the trust vote. Congress has a total of 19 MLAs, but a few of them still have not joined their colleagues although they claim they are with the party.
