NEW DELHI: Ukraine and its foreign partners are considering the possibility of inviting Russia to a peace summit to discuss an end to Moscow’s invasion on Kyiv’s terms, according to a senior Ukrainian official. The summit, hosted by Switzerland, aims to discuss a vision for peace and may present a plan to Russia during a subsequent meeting.
Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, stated that if the aggressor country genuinely wants to end the war and establish a just peace, representatives of the Russian Federation could be invited to the summit.
Zelenskiy initially proposed his peace formula at a Group of 20 summit in November 2022, which focuses on restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the complete withdrawal of Russian troops. However, Kyiv has made it clear that it will only engage in talks with Moscow once all Russian troops have left Ukrainian territory.
The Kremlin has dismissed the possibility of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, claiming that Kyiv’s peace plan is absurd as it excludes Russia.
