Dharmesh Darshan breaks silence on ‘Dhadkan 2’: It may be a fresh take on modern cinema | Hindi Movie News – Times of India
Bollywood’s ace filmmaker Dharmesh Darshan, who is well-known for his blockbuster films like ‘Lootere (1993)’, ‘Raja Hindustani (1996)’, ‘Dhadkan (2000), and others, is celebrating his 55th birthday today, May 16.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Dharmesh Darshan opened up about his upcoming romantic musical ‘Dhadkan 2’ which can prove to be a success, just like the first part.Darshan mentioned that it might or might not be a sequel to one of his timeless classics, or it could be an entirely fresh take on modern cinema by a newly reinvented Dharmesh Sheela Darshan.
When asked if he would like to return to directing, he said that if cinema needed him, he would always be there, especially since he still has age and positivity on his side.
Previously, Darshan also narrated the story behind casting actors Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Shilpa Shetty in the film ‘Dhadkan’. He shared that, after considering several actors and actresses, Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty were ultimately chosen for the roles of Ram and Anjali.
The character of Dev had a gray shade, leading actors like Arbaaz Khan and Bobby Deol to decline the part. That’s when Suniel Shetty stepped in and accepted the role. Interestingly, ‘Dhadkan’ was released on August 11, which coincided with Suniel’s 39th birthday. He went on to receive the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role for his performance in the film.
Starring Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, and Suniel Shetty in the lead roles, Dhadkan, directed by Dharmesh Darshan, proved to be a blockbuster in theaters. Reportedly, the film was made on a budget of Rs 9 crore, and it grossed approximately Rs 26 crore.
The film also starred Mahima Chaudhry, Parmeet Sethi, and Sharmila Tagore in pivotal roles.
