NEW DELHI: Mumbai Police on Saturday received a WhatsApp message threatening an attempt on PM Modi’s life, according to a report by news agency PTI.
The threat, sent to the traffic police helpline, included claims of a bomb plot involving two alleged ISI agents, according to officials.
The message originated from a number traced to Ajmer, Rajasthan. A police team has been dispatched immediately to apprehend the suspect, an official told PTI.
Preliminary investigations suggest the sender might be mentally disturbed or under the influence of alcohol.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials noted that the Mumbai traffic police helpline has previously received hoax threats.
The incident comes just a week after a 34-year-old Kandivli resident, Sheetal Chavan, was arrested for allegedly issuing threats at Prime Minister’s life. Chavan reportedly called the police control room, claiming she had weapons ready.
Police investigations revealed that Chavan, who is unmarried and resides alone, acted out of frustration with the system. She has no criminal history or affiliations with any groups, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dikshit Gedam said.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath was also targeted

In another case, a 24-year-old woman, Fatima Khan, was arrested on November 3 for allegedly threatening Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
The message, sent to the Mumbai Police Traffic Control Room, warned that Adityanath would be killed within 10 days if he did not resign.
Khan, a BSc graduate in Information Technology, was apprehended in Ulhasnagar, Thane district.
