Oman announces new fees for citizenship and nationality applications | World News – The Times of India
Applying for Omani citizenship will now come with a clearly defined price tag. In a move aimed at tightening and standardising nationality services, Oman has approved a new fee structure covering both citizenship applications and requests to relinquish nationality, according to details published in the Sultanate’s Official Gazette.Under the revised framework, the fee for submitting an application to obtain Omani citizenship has been set at OMR 600. This charge applies to foreign women married to Omani nationals, as well as widows or divorced spouses of Omanis. The same fee also covers applications submitted on behalf of the minor children of Omani women, ensuring a uniform cost across these family-based eligibility categories. In addition to citizenship applications, the updated regulations introduce an OMR 200 fee for requests related to the withdrawal or relinquishment of Omani nationality. This marks the formal introduction of charges for nationality renunciation, placing it alongside citizenship acquisition within a standardised administrative fee structure. The new fee schedule came into force on January 4, 2026, and applies across the Sultanate. Authorities have made clear that the decision is limited strictly to application and service fees. There are no changes to eligibility criteria, legal requirements, or the laws governing citizenship and nationality matters, and applicants must continue to meet the same conditions as before.Officials say the revised fees form part of broader efforts to streamline and standardise administrative procedures related to nationality services. By clearly outlining costs in the Official Gazette, the government aims to provide applicants with greater transparency, consistency, and certainty when navigating citizenship and nationality processes in Oman.
