Meta officials appear before NCPCR

NEW DELHI: Senior executives from Meta India, appeared before National Commission for Protection of Child Rights Wednesday in connection with the inquiry instituted to investigate the allegations linked to circulation of child sexual exploitative abuse material (CSEAM) on Instagram.The details of those present from Meta and the questioning and cross-examination that would have followed were not shared by NCPCR till the time of going to the press. The commission had summoned the MD and head of Meta India to appear before it 3pm Wednesday.Additional secretary in the ministry of women and child development, who is holding additional charge as NCPCR chairperson, Valeti Premchand, led the hearing. Member secretary Sanjeev Sharma and ministry of electronics and information technology officials were also present. NCPCR had issued a notice to Meta on July 3 taking suo moto cognisance of a BBC report alleging advertisements related to CSEAM on its platform.
