Ram temple not real issue, says Pitroda; BJP hits back | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Gandhi family loyalist and Congress functionary Sam Pitroda’s remark on the Ram temple triggered strong reactions from BJP which accused him and Congress of practising “appeasement politics”.
Pitroda, known as a confidant of Rahul Gandhi, had said that Ram Mandir is not the real issue in the country and cited unemployment and economy as issues to be part of the public discourse.
Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “A grand temple of Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram in Ayodhya was a long-standing desire of the people of India. While the approaching date of Pran Pratishtha is creating waves of divinity, delight and joy across the country, it is creating a sense of loss, gloom and dread in Congress.”
Pradhan said Pitroda’s heartburn on Ram Mandir and the celebrations associated with it is reflective of Congress’s chronic allergy to Lord Ram and Hindus. “With such people in the inner circle, it’s a no-brainer why Congress is totally disconnected with the soul, psyche and mood of Bharat,” he said.
Union minister and BJP MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar said Pitroda’s remarks reflect the mindset of Congress and Rahul Gandhi.
“Sam Pitroda is the prime example of how far removed Rahul’s Congress is from the psyche of India. During UPA, Sam was a very powerful man and he was leading the PM’s Innovation Council… 2G scam happened then, and he was silent about that. On inflation and other issues, he had said ‘what if there is some inflation’,” he said.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said Pitroda has a penchant for putting his foot in the mouth, just like Rahul Gandhi, who he mentors. “Notwithstanding the fact that India, at 3.2%, is currently witnessing the lowest unemployment in the last two decades, inflation is range-bound and among the lowest in the world, Pitroda has the audacity to conflate the consecration of Ram Mandir with inflation and unemployment! Shameful,” he said.
