NEW DELHI: The defence ministry on Wednesday said a three-year rolling plan has been formulated to ensure all states get equal opportunity to participate in the Republic Day parade, once again rejecting as “unfounded” the continuing criticism by Punjab, Delhi and West Bengal of discrimination in rejection of their tableaux.
The selection of tableaux was carried out in the “most transparent and consultative manner, giving equal opportunity to all the states and UTs irrespective of the ruling dispensation there”, official sources said.
The expert committee, consisting of renowned artists recommended by IGNCA and ICCR, selected the tableaux of 16 States and UTs for this year’s parade after four rounds of meetings.
They are Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana,
Jharkhand, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
“The two themes of this year — `Viksit Bharat’ and `Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka’ as well as the guidelines for selection were informed to the states in advance. More than 16 state tableaux cannot be accommodated due to time constraints of the parade,” a source said.
The states whose tableaux have not been selected have been invited to showcase them at `Bharat Parv’ at Red Fort from January 23 to 31. “The three year plan – 28 states have signed the MoU for it so far — has been finalized to give every State or UT a chance on a rolling basis to showcase its tableau in the Republic Day parades of 2024, 2025 and 2026,” he added.
