IPL 2025: Dwayne Bravo replaces Gautam Gambhir as Kolkata Knight Riders’ new mentor | Cricket News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Dwayne Bravo, who recently retired from all forms of cricket, has been appointed as the mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR, who won the IPL 2024, needed a new mentor after Gautam Gambhir left to become the head coach for the Indian team.
Bravo, previously part of Tobago Knight Riders, suffered a groin injury while attempting to take Faf du Plessis‘ catch. This injury forced Bravo off the field, and he did not bowl any overs in that match.
Bravo’s career spans 18 years, during which he set high standards in T20 cricket. He won titles in IPL, PSL, and Big Bash leagues and was also a two-time world champion with the West Indies. Bravo ends his career with 631 wickets from 582 T20 matches, second only to Kieron Pollard.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Riders Group, shared his excitement about the appointment: “DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development. His relentless drive to win, along with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players. We’re also pleased that Bravo will be involved with our other franchises globally, including CPL, MLC, and ILT20.”
DJ Bravo also expressed his enthusiasm for this new chapter and said, “I’ve been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last 10 years in the CPL. Having played for and against the Knight Riders in various leagues, I have a lot of respect for how they operate. The owners’ passion, the professionalism of the management, and the family-like environment make it a special place. This is the perfect platform for me as I transition from playing to mentoring and coaching the next generation of players.”
The West Indies great had earlier retired from international cricket in 2021 and had stepped away from the IPL.
