The police have registered a case against a man accused of brutally assaulting his 88-year-old grandmother at her house in Kandankali, Payyanur, Kannur, Kerala. The incident occurred on May 11. The victim, A. Karthyayani, is currently undergoing treatment at Kannur Medical College Hospital.

According to a complaint filed by her home nurse, the accused, Riju, allegedly kicked the elderly woman and slammed her head against a wall. The attack is believed to have stemmed from resentment over her decision not to live with him.

Another grandson, Rahul, stated the Riju was intoxicated during the assault. He initially claimed that Karthyayani had fallen in the bathroom, but injuries observed by doctors suggested otherwise. Relatives confirmed that visible marks of assault were found during her medical examination.

Though a case has been registered under Section 126(2) and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the police are yet to arrest the accused.
