Liverpool boss Arne Slot came to the defence of Mohamed Salah, urging patience as criticism mounts over the Egyptian star’s recent dip in form.

Salah, long revered as Liverpool’s “Egyptian King,” has endured a frustrating spell — scoring just three goals in nine appearances this season and going scoreless in five of seven Premier League games.

His muted showing in the 2–1 defeat to Chelsea over the weekend drew further scrutiny, with fans and pundits questioning both his sharpness and his defensive effort.

Slot Defends His Star Man

While the pressure continues to build, Slot has made it clear he’s not losing faith in his talisman.

“It’s not like every chance he gets is always a goal,” Slot said after the Chelsea defeat. “We feel sometimes it is, because of what he has done so many times. But yeah, he is a human being.”

The Dutchman stressed that Salah’s extraordinary standards over the years have set unfair expectations.

“He’s been scoring at a ridiculous rate for seasons,” Slot added. “When that dips slightly, people notice. But he’s still working, still creating, and we’ll get him back to where he belongs.”

A Dip in Form, But Not in Class

Once Liverpool’s relentless scoring machine, the 33-year-old Egyptian has struggled to replicate his usual cutting edge in front of goal.

Even more concerning to some fans was Salah’s perceived lack of urgency during defensive transitions at Stamford Bridge — a trait uncharacteristic of a player known for his tireless work rate in previous seasons.

Still, Salah’s record speaks for itself: 29 goals in 38 league matches last season, a Premier League Golden Boot, and a vital role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign.

But since that peak, his output has slowed — with just two goals in his last 11 matches across all competitions.

The Road Ahead

Liverpool’s loss at Chelsea was their third defeat in eight days, a concerning stretch that saw Arsenal leapfrog them to the top of the PL table.

But with a home fixture next and a crucial Champions League tie looming, Slot will be betting on Salah’s experience and mentality to turn things around.
