Investigators probing the deadly Delhi car blast have uncovered startling details about the methods used by co-accused Dr Muzammil Shakeel to prepare explosive materials, sources told CNN-News18.

Muzammil, a doctor associated with Faridabad’s Al-Falah University, allegedly used a basic flour mill for processing chemicals, an operation he is believed to have carried out discreetly inside his rented accommodation in Haryana’s Faridabad for months.

Officials familiar with the investigation told CNN-News18 that the breakthrough came after Faridabad Police recovered an enormous cache of explosive substances on November 9.

The haul included 360 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, along with other chemicals commonly used in improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

During interrogations, Muzammil reportedly explained that he used the flour mill to grind urea into a fine powder. This powder, he said, was then refined with the help of an electrical apparatus to extract ammonium nitrate and prepare more sophisticated explosive components.

Investigators said Muzammil admitted that this system had been in use “for a long time,” enabling him to separate and enhance the chemical compounds necessary for explosive preparation without drawing attention.

Meanwhile, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is leading the probe into the blast that killed 15 people, has widened its investigation to include individuals who may have had routine contact with Muzammil.

The November 10 car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi was triggered by a suicide bomber, later identified as Umar Un Nabi.

The blast claimed the lives of 15 people and left many others injured.

Days before the blast, an interstate “white-collar” terror module was uncovered with the recovery of a huge cache of explosives, mainly from Faridabad in Haryana.
