Rishi Ramesh Golait Talks About His Book “The Roads That Raised Me”
About the Author:
I am a storyteller and professional based in Bangalore, originally from Mumbai. My writing comes from a place of reflection a space between ambition and peace, where we learn to listen to life’s quiet truths. With a background in Human Resources, people management, and human behaviour, I have spent years understanding how people think, change, and carry their emotions through everyday struggles. That understanding shapes every story I write. Alongside my professional work, my family and I also run a small café, a space that continues to teach me about community, warmth, and the beauty found in everyday conversations. The Roads That Raised Me is my debut literary fiction novel a heartfelt reflection on belonging, sacrifice, and rediscovery. It is not about escape, but about learning to see our lives differently, with honesty and calm. Through my work, I hope to remind readers to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and find beauty in the roads that once felt ordinary because sometimes, those are the roads that lead us home.
Exclusive interview with the author
Q: What Inspired You To Write This Book?
A: This book came from a quiet phase of my life. There was no single dramatic moment that pushed me to write it. It grew slowly, from years of observing people, listening to their stories, and noticing how often we put our own dreams on hold while trying to do the right thing. I was inspired by ordinary lives people who work hard, carry responsibilities, stay silent, and keep going without complaint. At some point, many of us pause and ask ourselves if this is the life we truly wanted, or if we simply learned to adjust to it.
“The Roads That Raised Me” is my way of reflecting on those thoughts. It is not about running away from life, but about understanding it better, being grateful for where we come from, and learning to listen to ourselves before it feels too late.
Q: Can You Tell Us About The Book?
A: The Roads That Raised Me is a reflective novel about Ameya, a man who grows up learning responsibility early and slowly puts his dreams aside. Through memories, relationships, and quiet moments of realization, he begins to question the life he has built and what truly matters to him. It is a story about gratitude, self-discovery, and learning to see our own lives with honesty and calm.
Q: What Does The Title Mean?
A: Life feels like a bridge from birth to death — a bridge we ultimately walk alone. People come and go along the way, but what stays with us are the lessons they leave behind, the attachments we form, and the truths they teach us.
The Roads That Raised Me reflects those journeys — the paths shaped by relationships, responsibilities, and quiet realizations. It is about understanding those lessons with gratitude, finding self-realization, and learning to move forward on our own path toward meaning and inner success.
Q: Was The Character Inspired By A Real Person?
A:Yes, “Ameya” is inspired by real people and real experiences. While the story is fictional, his emotions, struggles, and moments of silence come from lives I have closely observed, including parts of my own journey. That is what makes his story feel real and relatable.
Q:What Do You Think Happened To The Characters After The Book Ended?
A: I like to think their journey did not end with the last page. They continued living, making small choices with a little more honesty and awareness. The future remains open, just like life itself, shaped by what they learned and the paths they choose to walk next.
Q: Where Do You Get Your Information Or Ideas For Your Books?
A: My ideas come from everyday life and quiet moments. From observing people, listening deeply, and noticing emotions that are rarely spoken aloud. I am also influenced by books like The Secret and The Emotional Reset, which changed the way I think and helped me reflect more deeply on mindset, awareness, and personal growth. All of this quietly finds its way into my writing.
Q: Do You Have Any Suggestions To Help Others To Become A Better Writer? If So, What Are They?
A: Read widely and write regularly, even when you feel unsure. Observe life closely, listen more than you speak, and write from experiences that feel true to you. Most importantly, be patient with yourself good writing takes time, honesty, and the courage to stay with your own voice.
Q: How Did Publishing Your First Book Change Your Process Of Writing?
A: Publishing my first book made me more patient and thoughtful about my writing. It taught me the value of revision, clarity, and staying true to the story while being open to feedback. Most of all, it reminded me that writing is not just about expression, but about connection.
Q: What Is The Most Difficult Part About Writing For You?
A: The most difficult part is staying patient with the process. Some days the words come easily, and on others they do not. Learning to sit with silence, doubt, and unfinished thoughts and still return to the page has been the hardest and most important part.
Q:What Does Success Mean To You? What Is The Definition Of Success?
A:Success, for me, is reaching a place where I am at peace with myself. It means understanding my journey, accepting my past, and moving forward without regret. If I can live honestly, stay grateful, and feel content with who I am becoming, that feels like true success to me.
Q:How Important Is Research To You When Writing A Book?
A:Research is important, but for my kind of writing, observation matters more. I rely less on facts and more on understanding emotions, behaviour, and real-life experiences. Research supports the story, but the heart of it comes from lived moments and reflection.
Q: Do You Believe A Book Cover Plays An Important Role In The Selling Process?
A: Yes, I believe a book cover matters. It creates the first impression and invites a reader to pause and feel curious. While the story gives depth, the cover opens the door and sets the emotional tone for what lies inside.
Q: What Advice Would You Give To Aspiring Authors?
A: Write from a place of truth, not pressure. Be patient with your journey and allow your voice to grow naturally.
