Kerala Factory Blast

Earlier in April, an explosion was reported at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Kerala’s Thrissur district, killing as many as 13 people and leaving 40 others injured.

The incident took place in Mundathikode at around 3.35 pm.

“The firecracker preparation unit was situated in a paddy field that had dried after the harvest, and the intense summer heat may have worsened the incident,” an official from the Wadakkanchery Fire Station had told Onmanorama. Most of the injured were workers from the facility.

Officials had said that fire officials and ambulances were rushed to the spot immediately after the incident.

“We received an alert around 3.35 pm about the blast. The firecracker preparation unit was situated in a paddy field that had dried after the harvest, and the intense summer heat may have worsened the incident,” an official from the Wadakkanchery Fire Station had said. “Fire units from Wadakkanchery, Kunnamkulam, and Thrissur coordinated the response alongside the local police,” he added.
