Barcelona Agree Cut-Price Deal For Senior Arsenal Striker

FC Barcelona have reportedly agreed a deal with Arsenal FC to sign 29-year-old striker Gabriel Jesus. The Catalan giants will pay the North London club £8.5 million plus performance-related add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in July 2022 for £45 million. It was a time when Mikel Arteta’s men were desperate for a spark in the attack, and the Spaniard turned to Jesus, whom he had worked with at the Etihad Stadium during his time as the City assistant manager.
Jesus made an immediate impact, providing the pressing, technical skill, and flair needed to establish the club as title contenders.
His debut 2022–23 campaign produced 11 league goals and six assists in 26 games, despite a three-month absence due to a knee injury suffered at the World Cup.
In subsequent seasons, Jesus continued to put up memorable performances, though recurring fitness issues shifted him into a more rotational role across the front three. In recent weeks, he had been shifted to separate training and didn’t make it to Arsenal’s squad for the Community Shield final against City and the Premier League opener against Coventry.
His pre-season appearances looked deprived of the pazzazz and, occasionally, effort. Italian giants Napoli were reportedly in talks with him and were close to agreeing a deal with Arsenal but Jesus wasn’t as interested.
He’ll end his tenure with 32 goals in all competitions (including 21 goals in 84 Premier League appearances). He was one of the highest earners at Arsenal and sporting director Andrea Berta would be delighted to have his wages off the books.
Risky but important signing for Barcelona
Barcelona have been desperate for a centre forward after losing both Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres. Winger Raphinha has been deputising there for the meantime, but Jesus will offer a solid short-term solution after their failed pursuit for Jullian Alvarez.
His ability to drop deep and hit passes to Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Antony Gordon could have huge upside for Barcelona. It remains to be seen if they can manage him to extract enough games out of his body to make the deal worth it.
